Back le bid - Help Bring The Tour de France to Leeds!

The tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire, Leeds City Region Partnership and key local councils have created this offical bid to bring the Tour de France to Leeds in 2016.

Mark Cavendish who is a star sprinter is backing this bid along with Team Sky team mate Ben Swift.

There is also a massive campaign after being launched to try and get the public behind this event and vote to being the Tour de France to the county.

The idea behind this campaign is that if they are successful, the county will benefit from the revenue which would be earned by the increase in tourism for the event and also would show the world how beautiful the county is as the event will be screened worldwide showing on 92 different television channels.

The Tour de France is one of the most exciting sporting events there is and with this campaign, Yorkshire are hoping that it will be held there in 2016.  The 2011 event was held in Paris from the 2nd to the 24th of July, covering a distance of 3,430.50 kilometres.  The winner of the 2011 race was Australian born Cadel Evans.

Leeds is an excellent city backdrop for the colour and excitement of such a high profile race the wider Yorkshire region is also marvellous setting.  It would also be an unmissable opportunity for the local people to witness this international event right in the heart of their own area.
